This follows the State's annual designation of April as Florida's Water Conservation Month, which is meant to educate citizens about how we can all help save Florida's precious water resources. 2023 is the 25th Anniversary that the State has declared April as Florida's Water Conservation Month! This year, Water Conservation Month centers around water loss from leaky faucets, toilets and irrigation. Douglas Conkey, Intergovernmental Affairs Director for the St. Johns River Water Management District, was in attendance to accept the Resolution. He stated, "Water conservation is the most important action we can take to sustain our water supplies, meet future needs, and reduce demands on Florida's water dependent ecosystems such as springs, rivers, lakes, and wetlands. The average household's leaks account for 10,000 gallons of water wasted every year, the equivalent of the amount of water needed to do 270 loads of laundry. 10% of our homes have leaks that waste 90 gallons or more of water per day. Repairing simple leaks can save homeowners about 10% on their water bill". The Board of County Commissioners urges to repair leaks and to do their part in saving Florida's water not just in April, but also year-round. -Sabrina Robertson Public Information Officer. 3/21/23 @ 10:30 a.m.- The County's bi-annual Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Event will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 8:00 a.m. - noon (or until trucks reach capacity... whichever comes first). For those that are not familiar with this matter, Congress enacted the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. This Act required that Medicaid programs keep people continuously enrolled in exchange for enhanced federal funding "until the end of the month in which the public health emergency ends in order to receive enhanced federal funding". As part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act signed into law on December 29, 2022, the continuous enrollment provision will end on March 31, 2023, meaning that millions of individuals could lose coverage. To learn more about this "Medicaid Unwinding" and to find out what you need to do to renew your coverage, please consider registering for the webinar at https://bit.ly/3KXcGG4. Once you've registered, you will receive an email confirmation containing the Zoom link and access code.
