Extending the local State of Emergency allows the County to file FEMA claims for continued recovery efforts related to Hurricane Ian. During today's meeting, County Manager, Taco Pope, explained, "An incident has multiple phases and part of that is recovery and close-out. Currently, we are in the recovery phase. Examples of activities taking place include inspection of drainage facilities, ditches and bridges. The close-out phase consists of administrative functions including documentation and reporting needed for filing those claims to FEMA." It is anticipated that the State of Emergency will need to be extended several times in order to complete the steps referenced above.
