Health Officials Continue to Emphasize Precautionary Measures to Prevent Mosquito-Borne Illness8/17/2018 8/17/18 @ 3:05 p.m. - Attached is a Press Release from the Florida Department of Health reminding residents to take precautionary measures to prevent mosquito-borne illness. As you are probably aware, there is no designated County funding for mosquito control spraying, however you can prevent bites by using repellents containing DEET and by following the steps listed in the attached statement from the Department of Health. Additionally, there are various products available for purchase at your local hardware store that can help eliminate mosquitoes on your personal property such as sprays, mosquito magnets, and insect eliminators.

7/2/18 @ 10:55 a.m. - The Nassau County Department of Health is one of five hundred health departments across the country to be declared as "Project Public Health Ready (PPHR)", a unique program from the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) and the Center for Disease Control. This program was created to recognize health departments who have been distinguished for excellence for its ability to plan for, respond to, and recover from public health emergencies.

The risk of transmission to humans has increased, therefore the Health Department is taking this opportunity to remind residents and visitors to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes and to take basic precautions to limit exposure.

The Partnership for a Healthier Nassau facilitates Nassau County’s three-year Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). The CHIP is a countywide plan for community health systems partners and resource providers that aims to improve the health and wellbeing of its residents. The forum will brainstorm on trends, events and factors affecting the health and quality of life in Nassau County to create the Community Health Improvement Plan for 2019-2021. According to the attached Press Release issued by the Health Department, the documentary is regarding Adverse Childhood Events (ACEs) and their impact on health. Healthy Start Program Manager, Valerie Eldridge, states, "Through the Nassau Infant Mortality Taskforce, local service providers are examining how ACEs affect maternal and infant health outcomes and are developing strategies to prevent and to intervene when ACEs occur. The first step to lowering the occurrence of ACEs and caring for those who have experienced them, is community awareness and education. Screening the documentary, Resilience, aligns with that goal".
