On Monday, March 27, 2017, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to open the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office new administration building at the Nassau County Public Safety Complex. The facility is the first ever stand-a-lone Sheriff’s Office Administration Building ever constructed since Sheriff’s Office was founded in 1827. NCSO has always been housed in either a courthouse or jail facility. This new sheriff’s office had been talked about since at least the 1990’s when the courthouse and jail were being planned and then eventually built in the early 2000’s. Several former sheriffs developed plans and worked on committees, but it seemed the money just wasn’t there after the courthouse was finished. In 2013, a committee comprised of then County Manager Ted Selby, District 3 County Commissioner Pat Edwards, and Sheriff Bill Leeper worked closely together to get this project finally started and completed. We developed a new set of plans that lowered the costs, worked with the Florida legislature to get $500,000 dollars allocated for the project, even though it was vetoed by Governor Scott. This however, was the impetus to get the county commission to place the building on their capital improvement plan and allocate $10 million dollars of reserve funds for the project in 2014. This past May we cut the ribbon and moved in to our new state-of-the-art 911 Call Center across the street in the Emergency Operations Building, which allows our communications officers to serve our citizens with the latest technology and equipment available. Cutting the ribbon on this new Sheriff’s Office Admin facility is another major part of our continuing efforts of professionalizing NCSO and will serve the sheriff’s office and the citizens of Nassau County for many decades to come, providing a safe & secure facility where our employees can deliver the best services possible for our citizens. As for what is to come, we are very excited to start beginning the design phase of our next major project, which is a public safety (police & fire) training center, which will be built on 40 acres off of CR-108 west of I-95 in Sandhill. This center will allow Nassau County law enforcement officers and fire/rescue personnel to be some of the best trained around our state and our region. Our citizens deserve nothing less. ![]() 3/20/17 @ 11:30 a.m. - A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony has been scheduled for Monday, March 27, 2017 at 4:00 p.m., in celebration of the recently completed Sheriff Administration Facility located at 77151 Citizens Circle, Yulee, FL. The old facility located on State Road 200 was plagued with leaks and was so small that many operations were ran out of dilapidated trailers. This new modern facility has everything needed to accommodate the department and is large enough to handle future growth of the County. We are very excited about this milestone and hope that you all will join us in celebrating this historic event! If you have any questions, please contact the Sheriff's Office at (904) 548-4069. -Sabrina Robertson County Manager's Office ![]() 11/30/16 at 9:50 a.m. - Sheriff Leeper posted the below message to their FaceBook page yesterday and we wanted to share it here for anyone not on social media: To the citizens of Nassau County: The loss of Deputy Eric Oliver has been one of the darkest times in recent memory for the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office. Even though our entire agency is hurting, we are blessed to have the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office family, a courageous group of men and women who have held each other close and supported one another while never failing to protect our community. We want to say thank you to our citizens for the love and support you have shown Deputy Oliver’s family, as well as our agency as we all mourn his loss. The continuous outpouring of encouragement, gratitude, and respect for him and our deputies that has come from our community and across our state and the nation has brought us the comfort and the strength needed to survive this tragedy. You all have truly touched our hearts. We also want to thank all of the men & women from law enforcement and fire/rescue agencies who volunteered their time to assist us with the services, as well as attend the funeral. There is truly a bond between public safety professionals who work together every day to protect our residents and make our communities a safer place. Nassau County has a history of supporting their public servants but the public outpouring we have experienced the past few days has been overwhelming. The cards, letters, donations and public displays have brought us all to tears. All of this not only helps in the healing process but strengthens and encourages us to continue our mission of protection and service. Even though this has been a difficult time for us, our community has given us something positive to build on. All of the men & women at the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank you all for your kindness, generosity and willingness to stand with us during this time of mourning. We are fortunate to be policing in a community where there is a type of caring that you have demonstrated. It makes a demanding job a little easier to do knowing this community truly appreciates the sacrifice our law enforcement officers make. God bless and please stay safe! Sheriff Bill Leeper ![]() Governor Scott has issued the attached memorandum ordering all flags in the State of Florida to be lowered to half-staff on Sunday, May 15, 2016, to commemorate Peace Officers Memorial Day. Peace Officers Memorial Day was created in October 1, 1961 when Congress asked President Kennedy to designate May 15 to honor peace officers. President Kennedy signed the bill into law on October 1, 1962. Citizens are encouraged to pay tribute to the law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and to voice appreciation for all those who currently serve on the front lines in the battle against crime. On behalf of Nassau County, thank you to all of our local law enforcement officers, both past and present. We appreciate all you do to protect the citizens of this great County! -Sabrina Robertson County Manger's Office Next week, the County will host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to celebrate the completion of the 911 Call Center. The new call center consists of a 5,000 square foot addition to the existing Emergency Operations Center where emergency management personnel actively evaluate and update strategies related to a variety of emergency situations including but not limited to: how to respond to natural and man-made disasters; how to evacuate the county quickly and efficiently; where to establish emergency shelters during inclement weather; and how to handle dangerous situations such as bomb-threats and disease outbreaks.
The 911 dispatch employees currently work in the dilapidated Sheriff's Administration Building on SR200/A1A in a 2,000 square foot room with no windows and leaky roof. The tiny, outdated room lacks space for employees to complete important paperwork, has no place to hold training, no break room, and no room for growth. 911 Dispatch employees are specially trained to answer and dispatch 9-1-1 calls received in Nassau County, including those related to Fire & Rescue. County Officials saw the need for a modern facility that is both safe and functional and felt that the citizens would be best served if 911 Dispatch and other emergency personnel were located in one facility where they could utilize one unified dispatch system. The County sought bids for construction of the facility and ACON Construction was awarded the bid on July 28, 2014. The project is now complete and 911 Dispatch personnel are ready to move in. Please join us in celebrating this milestone on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. The 911 Call Center is located at 77150 Citizen's Circle in Yulee, FL. -Sabrina Robertson County Manager's Office Support the Nassau County Sheriff's Youth Explorers program by eating at Chili's on Tuesday, February 23rd, between 11:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. Simply present the attached flyer and 10% of the sales will go directly to this youth organization.
