8/15/19 @ 4:00 p.m. - Nassau County Fire Rescue applied for and has been awarded the Hoods to Heroes Grant valued at $15,625. This grant will provide protective hoods to our first responders to protect against cancer causing carcinogens. The foundation will present the hoods at a special ceremony being held on Friday, August 23, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Fire Rescue Headquarters located at 96160 Nassau Place, Yulee, FL. The public is invited to attend.

8/1/19 @ 9:45 a.m. - On Saturday, July 20th, Nassau County Solid Waste held their annual Tire Waste Amnesty Event in which Nassau County residents could dispose of up to 12 tires at no charge. A total of 611 tires were collected during the four hour event.
A big thank you to all the employees and volunteers who worked during the event, as well as to the residents who participated. We commend each of you for doing your part to dispose of these tires properly and reducing their environmental impact. -Sabrina Robertson County Manager's Office 6/25/19 @ 10:00 a.m. - On Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 1:00 p.m., the Board of County Commissioners will host a Dedication Ceremony for renaming the Callahan County Building to the Walter Boatright County Building. Mr. Boatright served as County Commissioner from 2008 through 2016 and was a known for his solution oriented approach, sense of humor and down to earth demeanor that allowed him to work with with others, even in the face of disagreement.
Mr. Boatright passed away in December 2018 and is greatly missed by County staff. (Here is the original announcement made by the County following his passing). The Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously in June 2019 to rename the Callahan County Building in his honor. The public is invite to attend this dedication event. WHEN: Thursday, June 27th at 1:00 p.m. WHERE: 45401 Mickler Street, Callahan, FL 32011 -Sabrina Robertson County Manager's Office ![]() 6/11/19 @ 9:00 a.m. - Nassau County will be hosting their Annual Waste Tire Amnesty Day on Saturday, July 20th at the Nassau County Convenience Recycle Center in Callahan. This free event allows Nassau County residents to dispose of up to twelve (12) tires per household, with proof of residency. Tires are limited to car and light truck tires only and must be off the rim and free of debris. No commercial loads will be accepted. The event begins at 8:30 a.m. and will remain open until 12:00 p.m., or until the truck is full (whichever comes first). If you have any questions, please contact Nassau County Solid Waste at (904) 530-6702 or email [email protected]. -Sabrina Robertson County Manager's Office 06/10/19 @ 2:00 p.m. - On Thursday, May 30, 2019, Nassau County Fire Rescue held a graduation ceremony for 3 new recruits who just completed 3 weeks of training to become official Firefighters/Paramedics. Both were given their assignments and began at their stations the next day. Fire Rescue also recognized Dr. Farid Ullah for his 47 years of service as the County's Medical Director. As Medical Director, Dr. Ullah was responsible for the medical performance of the paramedics operating for Nassau County Fire Rescue. His service to the County has been exceptional and we truly appreciate all he has done not only for the personnel, but for the citizens as well. Ken Barr in the background. -Sabrina Robertson County Manager's Office 5/31/19 @ 11:15 a.m. - On Wednesday, May 15, 2019, dozens attended a Ground Breaking Ceremony in celebration of the upcoming construction of a new County Extension Facility to be located at 85834 Miner Rd in Yulee. Those in attendance included the Board of County Commissioners, UF/IFAS Extension Staff, master gardeners, community volunteers and extension supporters.
The new 2,000 square foot facility will serve as the administration office for the Extension staff and will feature classrooms for lawn, agriculture, and family consumer classes and training rooms for the master gardeners and extension agents. The property will also feature demonstration gardens, a nature trail with learning stations, an orchard, and an aquatic pond for pond maintenance training. The new facility will be named the Rebecca L. Jordi Cooperative Extension Office, in honor of our current Extension Director, Ms. Becky Jordi. Anyone who has met Ms. Jordi can attest to her passion for agriculture and horticulture and her determination to make this project a reality. It is anticipated that the project will be completed within the next 16 months. -Sabrina Robertson County Manager's Office ![]() 5/13/19 @ 1:20 p.m. - The Board of County Commissioners and UF/IFAS Nassau Extension Office will be hosting a Ground Breaking Ceremony this Wednesday, May 15th, in celebration of the upcoming construction of the new County Extension Office and Demonstration Gardens. The event will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the site located at 85831 Miner Road, Yulee, FL 32097. (see map below) The public is invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served following the event. -Sabrina Robertson County Manager's Office 4/25/19 @ 9:15 a.m. - On Saturday, March 30, 2019, the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners and the Alachua County Environmental Protection Department hosted a Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Event in which residents were able to properly dispose of items that shouldn't be tossed in the trash. Examples included paint, paint thinners, aerosol cans, batteries, fluorescent lights, oils and lubricants, and pesticides.
A total of 181 households participated in the event with a total of 30,849 pounds (15.424 tons) of materials collected. The largest amount of hazardous material collected was paint with 18,281 pounds of latex paint and 4,526 pounds of old based paint collected. The second largest hazardous material collected was used oils and other lubricants weighing a total of 6,050 pounds. In addition to the fun, family friendly activities and character appearances listed on the flyer, the branch will be showcasing many Local and State Organizations to educate families about the wonderful services and programs offered by each organization.

Examples of items accepted include hazardous waste such as aerosol cans, batteries, fertilizers, pesticides, paints, paint thinner, propane tanks, oil filters, household cleaners, and fluorescent light bulbs, as well as electronics such as computer monitors, cell phones, cameras, radios, computers, and more. For a complete listing of items accepted, please see the attached flyer. This event is free with proof of Nassau County residency. No commercial loads will be accepted. In conjunction with this event, there will also be a food drive for Barnabas. Please consider bringing a non-perishable canned item to donate to the Barnabas pantry to help feed Nassau County residents in need.
