This 107 acre property will serve as a regional destination delivering recreation, leisure, social interaction, and educational opportunities for the entire spectrum of the public. It's overall conceptual plan and features were derived from community input which revealed that residents want a variety of recreational facilities and programs that include more than youth athletics. The data collected was used to create a conceptual plan which was shared with the public at a community meeting in March 2021 and formally adopted by the Board of County Commissioners in May 2021. Yesterday's event began with a welcome message by Vice-Chairman, Jeff Gray. He stated, "The County purchased this property with the dream of providing regional recreation opportunities for Nassau County residents. This park will be unlike anything Nassau County has ever seen and will serve the residents for many years to come". District Four County Commissioner, Thomas Ford, also spoke, stating, "This park will feature basic amenities such as pavilions, picnic tables and playgrounds. However, it will also feature unique amenities such as walking trails, a managed forest, a recreational fishing pond, outdoor fitness and exercise opportunities, green/event space, multi-use and tournament fields, and the County's first ampitheatre". He further added, "No matter where you live in Nassau County, you will now be able to experience a first-class park with a short drive". Other speakers at the event included Parks & Recreation Director, Jay Robertson, and Shawn Bliss with Prosser, Inc., the engineering firm overseeing construction of the project. Both shared information about the wonderful recreational opportunities the park will bring to the area, as well as their excitement to be involved in the efforts to bring these amenities to our residents. District Five Commissioner, Klynt Farmer, also spoke briefly, stating that, "I'm excited to see that we're going to bring something to the west side of the County that will benefit many, many generations". Following the presentations, the Commissioners participated in the ceremonial "breaking of the ground". We appreciate everyone that came out yesterday to celebrate with us. For those that were unable to attend, the presentation was recorded and can be found on our YouTube Channel (see link below). -Sabrina Robertson Public Information Officer Following the 3/22/22 @ 8:45 a.m. - Next week, the Board of County Commissioners will host a Groundbreaking Ceremony in celebration of the upcoming construction of Phase One of the Westside Regional Park.

After a welcome message by Chairman Aaron Bell, County Engineer, Robert Companion, provided a description of the project and the activities that took place. District 3 County Commissioner also spoke about the much needed improvements and its impact on the community. He stated, "While the actual road work has only been underway for just over a year, we have actually been planning this project for many years. In fact, the County sought money from the State in 2012, 2013 and 2014 to assist in the costs of the project. We were finally successful in 2015 when the State allocated $1.25 million in grant funding and added the project to their 5-year work program. Since 2015, staff has worked diligently to complete its design, conduct site work, and everything else needed to be ready to break ground in accordance with the State’s timeline and available funding. We broke ground in November 2020 and not only was the project completed on time, it also came in under budget. I could not be prouder of our Engineering staff, the County Manager, County Attorney, and former and current Commissioners for all they’ve done to bring this project to fruition. We hope that you are as excited as we are and we look forward to bringing you more great things in the years to come". Thank you to the everyone who took the time to attend this event today, as well as to the community for your patience as we worked to complete this project. -Sabrina Robertson Public Information Officer 2/28/22 @ 11:50 a.m. - Please join us for a Ribbon Cutting on Monday, March 7, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. in celebration of the completion of the Pages Dairy Road Improvements Project. On, Friday, February 11, 2022, the Board of County Commissioners hosted a road naming ceremony in honor of Facilities Supervisor, Bill Howard, an 18 year employee who passed away in September 2021. In his role as Facilities Supervisor, Bill oversaw the maintenance of all the facilities within the Judicial Complex including the Robert M. Foster Justice Center; the Records Center; the Detention Center; the Sheriff's Administration Building; and the Emergency Operations Center. He was also responsible for ensuring that the HVAC systems functioned properly in all County facilities and served as a mentor to employees as they worked to obtain their HVAC certifications. Bill was an outstanding employee who often went above and beyond the call of duty. But even more than that, Bill was a great person and friend to many. In an effort to commemorate Bill's service and dedication to the County, the Board voted on November 17 2021, to name the unnamed service road just south of the Robert M. Foster Justice Center "Bill Howard Way" in his honor. Approximately 75 individuals were in attendance at the sign unveiling event which began with a welcome message by Chairman Aaron Bell. Guest speakers included the Honorable Judge James Daniel, the Honorable Judge Robert Foster; District One County Commissioner, John Martin; and Clerk of Courts, John Crawford. Bill's brother-in-law, Mark Glisson, also spoke about Bill's love of his job with the County and thanked the Board for naming the road in his honor. There were a lot of laughs and a lot of tears as everyone joined together to share stories and memories of Bill. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this a great event. -Sabrina Robertson Public Information Officer 2/15/22 @ 9:15 a.m.
