"Since the spill occurred, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Florida Highway Patrol, and Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission are working together to ensure proper response and recovery of debris from the incident. The is a solid waste issue and NOT a hazardous waste concern. Recovering this material is certainly desired and proper disposal is important, however there is no immediate threat. Recovery will be conducted and completed as soon as it can safely and feasibly be done. Once recovery is conducted and property disposed of, there is no anticipated significant environmental impact. Some immediate hard debris removal has already been conducted. The responsible party has been identified and is hiring a contractor to complete the removal and properly disposal of the remaining solid waste. DEP, FHP and FWCC will continue to monitor to ensure this process is completed properly, and as expediently and safely as possible".
