Happy Cat Month! Celebrated annually in September, this event was created by the CATalyst Council and aims to spread education and awareness about the health, welfare and importance of our furry, feline friends.
Cats are majestic creatures that have lived alongside humans for almost as long as dogs. And despite the common misconception that cats are self-reliant, they are actually very social animals that require the same level of care and attention that we lavish upon dogs.
Looking for ways to make sure your cat is happy? Try the following:
- Install a perch indoors near a sunny window
- Buy a ready-made cat tree (aka Kitty Condo) to create more areas to play and rest
- Play with your cat each day
- Provide various types of toys that allow your cat to stalk, chase, pounce and kick. And when you're not
home, leave out paper bags and cardboard boxes for them to enjoy.
- Provide them with cat grass so your indoor feline can graze
- Clean their litter box regularly
Also, if you have an indoor cat, be sure they still have an ID tag in case they get out. Or for extra assurance, have your cat microchipped and ensure their registry is up-to-date.
