On May 21, 2024, the Amelia Island Sea Turtle Watch announced that Nassau County beaches had its very first Kemp's Ridley nest. Kemp's Ridley are the most endangered species so this was very exciting news. Now, the AISTW has announced that Nassau County has a leatherback sea turtle nest, the first one since 2019!
We want to commend Nassau County residents and visitors for doing their part in protecting our sea turtle population. We also greatly appreciate the hard work of AISTW. For the past 38 years, they have lead the efforts in sea turtle conservation and have guided the County in implementing policies to further their mission. We are thankful for their partnership and guidance.
