On Saturday, July 23, 2016, USA Football hosted a free, one day football camp at the Yulee Sports Complex. This program was one of many USA Football Protection Tours offered throughout the country. While many of the clinics are hosted at NFL footballs stadiums, this event was hosted at the Yulee Sports Complex in celebration of the Jacksonville Jaguars Foundation's partnership with the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners for construction of a new football field.
Master Trainers from the USA Football Head's Up Program led player safety clinics with local coaches and footballs players. In this program, coaches were trained on the 4 pillars of safe football: Equipment Fitting; Concussion Awareness; Heat & Hydration; and Head's Up Tackling. The event also featured appearances by former Jacksonville Jaguar players who now serve as Head's Up Ambassadors, members of Roar, the Jacksonville Jaguars Cheerleaders, and Jaxson de Ville, the Jaguars beloved Mascot. Statistics have shown that players who learn the Head's Up Tackling technique have less injuries because they know how to safely block and tackle. Following the clinics, Master Trainers will continue to work with league coaches throughout the season to insure they are practicing the four pillars and applying the techniques they learned to each game. This joint effort serves as reassurance to parents that their children are being coached by individuals who can teach them the safety techniques they need to play the game safely. -Sabrina Robertson County Manager's Conference On Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 9:00 a.m., the Board of County Commissioners will have their first public hearing to consider an Ordinance prohibiting and regulating personal property left on the beaches within the unincorporated areas of Amelia Island.
Since July 2015, the County Manager, County Attorney, and the Tourist Development Council have been gathering information on how to address items being left on the beach. They have held a series of public meetings with concerned citizens, homeowner representatives, and resort representatives to discuss applicable state laws, state regulations, and budget issues related to enforcing the Ordinance. The attached draft Ordinance was subsequently prepared and includes information regarding the purpose of the Ordinance, definitions of personal property, and clarification on the types of items that are considered to be a public nuisance and threat to the safety of citizens and wildlife. The Ordinance proposes that any property left on unincorporated area of the County beaches from one hour after sundown to 6:00 a.m., shall be considered a nuisance and will be disposed of. Please note that persons with disabilities will be able to apply for a permit at no-charge which will allow the individual to store items in an area that does not obstruct access to the public beach, or have impact on vegetation, turtle nest of protected species. The check was presented by Renzo Sheppard, Community Relations Manager for the Jaguars Foundation and Aaron Colvin, Cornerback for the Jaguars. According to the website, the Jaguars foundation has provided more than $1 million dollars in grant money this year to communities and programs in need. District 3 County Commissioner, Pat Edwards, expressed his gratitude to the Jaguar Foundation noting that the money will provide an opportunity for more youth to play here. Yulee is the fastest growing area in the County and is in great need of additional fields.
Following the check presentation, County Officials, members of the Jaguars Foundation, and representatives of the contractor hired to construct the field, Dunmar Group, Inc., participated in a ceremonial "breaking of the ground" representing the start of the project. President of Dunmar Group, Loribeth Dunman, expressed her excitement to be a part of this event. "It's a great day to build a football field", stated Ms. Dunman. A big thank you to the Jaguar Foundation for awarding Nassau County with this grant. It's great knowing that there are organizations willing to give back to the communities and help them achieve their goals. -Sabrina Robertson County Manager's Office In May 2015, the Board of County Commissioners applied for a Jaguar Foundation Grant and was awarded $100,000 to construct a new football field at the Yulee Sports Complex and to renovate an existing field. The project was advertised for bid and subsequently awarded to the Dunmar Group, Inc. Next Thursday, representatives of the Jaguars will present the County with a check and a Notice to Proceed will be issued to the Dunmar Group so they can begin construction. A ground breaking ceremony will also take place immediately following the check presentation.
Join us in celebrating this event on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. on the Multi-Use Field at the Yulee Sports Complex located at 86098 Goodbread Road, Yulee, FL 32097. If you have any questions, please contact Facilities Maintenance Director, Bob Knott, at (904) 530-6120 or via e-mail at [email protected]. -Sabrina Robertson County Manager's Office We are pleased to announce that Nassau County has been awarded a $100,000 NFL Matching Community Funds Grant from the Jaguar Foundation which will be used to construct one new football field and refurbish one existing football field at the Yulee Sports Complex. This is very exciting news because the recreational space currently offered in Yulee is not meeting the demands from the growth in population.
The County will be required to provide $200,000 in matching funds in order to receive the grant. At the June 8th Board of County Commissioner's Meeting, the Board will consider utilizing District 503 Community Park Impact Fees to fund the match. It is important to note this project will not involve use of ad valorem tax dollars. Impact Fees are collected during the permitting process for new construction in the unincorporated areas of the County, therefore only those who have applied for building permits are contributing to the Impact Fee funds. Impact Fees are collected because each new structure or expansion causes an impact on the County in some way. For example, new homes have an increase on the amount of traffic traveling on a particular road, an increase in calls for fire/rescue, and an increase in the need for new parks and facilities. Impact Fees that are collected can only be used to fund capital improvement projects. Planning staff determined that the use of Community Park Impact Fees is justified because adding an additional football field is an expansion to the community recreational facilities and is necessary to accommodate population growth in the Yulee area (District 503). If the Board approves utilizing the Community Park Impact Fees as matching funds on June 8th, the Jaguar Foundation will provide a grant payment schedule to coincide with the construction schedule. If you have any questions about this project, please contact Facilities Maintenance Director, Bob Knott, at (904) 530-6120 or via e-mail at [email protected]. -Sabrina Robertson County Manager's Office ![]() The Melton Nelson Boat Ramp located on A1A & Lofton Creek in Yulee has a new restroom facility.
